Paul McMahon

Digital Learning Consultant
Learning Solutions Asia

A bit about me.

Paul is a passionate educator of 25 years classroom teaching experience. In his years as a teacher, he has held many roles including that of Senior Physics Teacher, Learning Technologies Coordinator, Laptop Programme Coordinator and Head of Information and Communication Technology. The major focus in the position as Head of ICT was the integration of technology to empower learning in all curriculum areas. This role required Paul to work in a consultancy role alongside the school’s Senior Management Team to ensure that teachers, students, parents and other stakeholders had a good understanding of the role of the programme.
At the same time as implementing the laptop initiative, the school upgraded the non-2K compliant Scholas AS400 school administration system to the SQL based Synergetic System. This meant a lot of research and training on SQL, Crystal Reports, IIS server etc to try to enable a portal access to student information by members of the school community. At that time Paul was responsible for the direct management of a team of 5 support staff and 3 IT teachers.
Paul now works for various agencies in Hong Kong and the region, including the HKSAR Education Bureau, and various International schools assisting them to effectively integrate appropriate IT use in their organizations. This role is extremely varied and ranges from sourcing software for kindergarten children to consulting on 1:1 laptop programs and learning portals. If it has to do with technology for improving the learning outcomes for young learners, Paul makes it his business to know it inside and out.
